European Cooperation on Deelopment and Implementation of Cancer Screening and Preention Guidelines (ECCG-ECN)
and
EUROpe against Cancer: Optimisation of the Use of Registries for Scientific Excellence in research (EUROCOURSE)
The ECCG project aims to deelop supplements to the current EU Guidelines for quality assurance in breast and cerical cancer screening in order to take into account new deelopments prior to future complete reisions of the currently published guideline editions. The releant topics include, for example, preention of cerical cancer through HP accination and testing, as well as digital mammography. The project is coordinated by IARC and is implemented in the framework of the European Cancer Network (ECN) for Screening and Preention in which related projects, such as deelopment of EU Guidelines for colorectal cancer screening are also conducted. For further information on the project, please go to: http://www.iarc.fr/en/research-groups/QAS/current-topics.php. For further information on cancer screening in the EU, please go to: http://ec.europa.eu/health/ph_determinants/genetics/keydo_genetics_en.htm
The EUROCOURSE project deals with all aspects of improing use of cancer registries for research. The focus of the EUROCOURSE actiities in the upcoming network meeting will be on workpackage 5:
Interface of cancer registries with cancer screening programmes
The specific aims of the work package are to deelop standards of cancer registration (e.g., on registration of stage, detection mode, etc) essential for ealuation of cancer screening programmes; to specify screening related elements in the European data sets to be deeloped further based on current quality assurance guidelines for cancer screening programmes; and demonstrate practicability of the new standards in collaboratie research projects. During the course of the project, a work group will be established, continuation of data collection on screening elements will be planned for, a strategy towards regular data collection from screening registers proposed, and priority list of research projects based on linkages between screening and cancer registers will be produced. The recommended research projects will be presented to representaties of the EU Member States in a summit of the EUROCOURSE project. The project builds on the preious related actiities in the ECN and in the recently completed EUNICE project (European Network for Information on Cancer). The work group will pay attention also to requirements and research needs for potential new cancer screening programmes. For further information see: http://www.eurocourse.org/
Meeting aims:
We aim to inform experts, staff and scientists, as well adocates formerly and currently actie in the EU cancer screening networks, the European Network of Cancer Registries, as well as the aboe mentioned projects, and to exchange information on the progress achieed to date in implementation, ealuation and quality assurance of population-based cancer screening programmes. And we expect the upcoming meeting to result in further expansion of collaboratie studies and other initiaties to improe cancer screening and preention with the help of cancer registries.
Due to the limited aailable resources, participation will be limited to a maximum of 3 experts per EU Member State and applicant country inoled in cancer screening and complementary preention and cancer registration. In addition, a limited number of international experts from outside Europe will be able to participate in the meeting. Unfortunately financial aid is also limited and must be restricted to two persons per member state and applicant country. Priority for participation and financial aid will be granted to inited speakers, poster presenters, and participants from new EU member states and applicant countries. In addition a larger number of participants from the host country (Poland) will be able to attend the meeting.
A proisional agenda is attached. A more detailed agenda and further information on registration and the meeting enue will be proided in the next announcement in February.
In the meantime we ask that you kindly resere the meeting dates in your calendar and we wish you a successful and rewarding 2010.
